Bhagalpur: The inordinate delay in conducting examinations at the Kala Kendra (Art Centre) of Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University (TMBU) has not only cast a shadow of uncertainty over the students' futures but has also raised serious questions regarding the functioning of the university administration. Following this prolonged delay, students and art enthusiasts have begun to unite and mobilize.
The Root Cause: Indefinite Delays in Examinations
The Kala Kendra, a prominent cultural and academic wing of the university, has been facing consistent hurdles in conducting its examinations. The failure to hold exams on time has caused the academic session to lag, leaving students anxious about their careers and opportunities for higher education. Students allege that the university administration has adopted an apathetic attitude toward the academic activities of the Kala Kendra, leading to deep-seated resentment among the students of the Fine Arts faculty.
A Firm Stand by Well-Wishers and the Threat of Protest
To address this grave issue, an important meeting of Kala Kendra well-wishers, senior academicians, and students was recently convened. Presided over by Dr. Manoj Kumar, former Proctor and Dean of Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalaya, Wardha, the meeting reached a clear consensus that further delays would not be tolerated.
The meeting unanimously decided to launch a 'phased civil movement,' the framework of which has been outlined as follows:
First Phase: A delegation consisting of citizens of Bhagalpur and students will first meet the high-ranking officials and the Vice-Chancellor of the university to demand the immediate announcement of examination dates.
Second Phase: If the university administration fails to take a positive initiative, students will be forced to resort to stricter measures, including leaflet distribution, indefinite hunger strikes/sit-ins, and protest rallies.
The University Administration's Stance: Assurances and Initiatives
Under mounting pressure, the university administration has now shown signs of activity. University Registrar Dr. Ramashish Purve has assured that the pending Kala Kendra examinations will be conducted as soon as possible. The administration clarified that the lack of necessary resources for conducting these examinations has been a significant challenge, which they are now striving to overcome.
According to the Registrar, for a permanent resolution to this problem, coordination will be established with the state’s Minister of Culture, ensuring that the Kala Kendra receives adequate resources so that future examinations face no obstacles. Furthermore, during the recently held 'Paridhi Srijan Mela' at the Kala Kendra premises, officials had assured that this issue would be treated as a priority.
Currently, students are awaiting the next official move by the university administration and the formal announcement of the examination schedule.
