Chaos After Road Accident Near Nasopur; Four Critically Injured in Collision Between Pickup Van and Toto
SULTANGANJ (Bhagalpur): A horrific road accident occurred on Friday near Nasopur, falling under the jurisdiction of the Sultanganj police station in Bhagalpur district. Four people were critically injured in a high-speed, head-on collision between a speeding pickup van and a passenger Toto (e-rickshaw). The incident caused immediate chaos at the scene. With the help of local residents, all the injured were rushed to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Sultanganj, where, following first aid, two individuals were referred to a higher medical facility due to their critical condition.
Details of the Incident: The Havoc of Speed
According to eyewitnesses, the incident took place in the morning while the Toto driver was transporting passengers to their destination. As the Toto reached the main road near Nasopur, it was struck head-on by an out-of-control pickup van coming from the opposite direction. The impact was so severe that the Toto overturned on the roadside, throwing the passengers onto the road.
Immediately after the incident, the driver of the pickup van abandoned his vehicle and fled the scene. Hearing the commotion, nearby villagers rushed to the site, moved the injured away from the road, and shifted them to a safe location. Upon receiving news of the accident, a team from the Sultanganj police station arrived at the spot shortly after.
Condition of the Injured: Two in Critical Condition
Doctors on duty at the CHC Sultanganj provided initial treatment to all the injured. According to information provided by the hospital management:
Identification of the Injured: Ajay Kumar Mishra and Amarjit Paswan sustained severe injuries. Two other individuals were also injured, though their injuries were reported to be minor.
Referral Status: Due to deep head injuries and internal trauma, the condition of Ajay Kumar Mishra and Amarjit Paswan remains critical. After initial stabilization, doctors referred them to the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital (Mayaganj Hospital) in Bhagalpur for advanced specialized care.
Grief and Outrage in the Surrounding Areas
As news of the accident spread, the relatives of the injured arrived at the hospital in a state of distress. There is significant anger among local residents in the Nasopur area regarding this accident. Villagers allege that the reckless speeding of heavy vehicles on this route is inviting accidents on a daily basis. Locals have demanded that the administration take strict measures regarding road safety.
Police Action
Confirming the incident, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Sultanganj stated that both vehicles involved in the accident have been seized. He said, "The police have initiated a search for the pickup van driver. The owner is being identified based on the vehicle's registration number, and they will be arrested soon. An FIR is being registered based on the statements of the victims' families."
Questions Raised Once Again on Safety
This accident once again highlights the disregard for traffic rules on rural roads. The Nasopur area is frequently busy, witnessing high movement of Totos, autos, and heavy cargo vehicles. Local intellectuals argue that had there been speed breakers or warning signage on the road, this major accident might have been averted.
Appeal from the Administration
The district administration has once again appealed to vehicle drivers to keep their speed under control in densely populated areas. Additionally, warnings have been issued to Toto and e-rickshaw drivers to strictly adhere to traffic regulations to prevent the recurrence of such heartbreaking incidents in the future.
Currently, the entire Sultanganj region is stunned by the incident. Everyone is praying for the speedy recovery of the injured, Ajay Kumar Mishra and Amarjit Paswan.
