Darbhanga: The Mithila Student Union (MSU) has strongly protested the Bihar Government's alleged decision to overlook the Maithili language in the proposed Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE-4). The organization described the move as an affront to the linguistic and cultural identity of the Mithila region and urged the government to reconsider its decision by ensuring adequate representation for Maithili in the recruitment process.
MSU leaders stated that Maithili is a constitutionally recognized language included in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution of India and possesses a rich literary, cultural, and academic heritage. They argued that excluding or giving inadequate representation to the language in such an important recruitment exercise hurts the sentiments of millions of Maithili-speaking people.
Questions Raised Over the Government's Decision
Representatives of the organization said that while the Bihar Government has consistently emphasized the promotion of mother-tongue education and the preservation of regional languages, the alleged lack of adequate representation for Maithili in TRE-4 contradicts those commitments.
They argued that if the importance of mother-tongue education is acknowledged at the primary and secondary levels, then qualified candidates in regional languages should also receive fair opportunities in teacher recruitment.
