EOU Cracks Down on Corrupt Engineer: Two Luxurious Flats of Arvind Chaudhary Found in Danapur Posh Apartment; Massive Cash, 500 Grams of Gold, and Benami Properties Exposed
A massive and shocking saga of corruption has once again surfaced from the Bihar administration and department. The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) has conducted extensive raids at the properties of Executive Engineer Arvind Kumar Chaudhary, who is posted in the Minor Water Resources Department (Minor Irrigation Division) in Sasaram, Bihar. The revelations during the raids on the properties of this engineerâwho amassed a treasure fit for Kubera in a government service of just 12 yearsâhave stunned everyone.
During the investigation, two luxurious flats belonging to Arvind Chaudhary were discovered in posh apartment colonies located in Danapur, Patna, on the interior decoration and designing of which lakhs of rupees were spent separately. A massive amount of cash, approximately half a kilo of gold, land deeds, and documents of immense wealth were recovered from these flats and his other properties. Let us analyze in detail this sensational corruption case, the EOU raids, and the recovered assets.
Background: How Did Executive Engineer Arvind Chaudhary Come Under the Radar?
Originally hailing from Pipradih village under the Rajoan police station area of Banka district in Bihar, Arvind Kumar Chaudhary started his government service in March 2014 as an Assistant Engineer (Civil).
Continuous Complaints Received: Having been posted in various districts such as Aurangabad, Muzaffarpur, Nawada, Kishanganj, and Patna during his tenure, he was currently working as an Executive Engineer in Sasaram. Following continuous complaints regarding his style of functioning and acquisition of assets disproportionate to his known sources of income, the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) gathered evidence against him confidentially.
Case Under the Prevention of Corruption Act: Preliminary investigations revealed that this engineer had amassed assets 85.05 percent more than his legal and known income. Subsequently, the EOU obtained a warrant from the Special Court (Vigilance) and conducted simultaneous raids at a total of six locations, including Patna, Danapur, Sasaram, Dehri-on-Sone, Muzaffarpur, and Banka.
Two Luxurious Flats in Posh Areas of Danapur and Their Grand Decoration
When the EOU team raided the Danapur area of Patna, the officers were left astounded upon witnessing engineer Arvind Chaudhary's assets. The investigation primarily uncovered two major properties:
Venus Paradise Apartment (Aadampur): Flat number 405 in this posh apartment colony was purchased in his name or through his close associates.
Venus Empire Apartment (Ashopur): Flat number 1301 in this second prestigious apartment located in Ashopur, Danapur, also belonged to him.
Separate expenditures running into lakhs of rupees were incurred on the construction and interior decoration of both of these luxurious flats. Seeing the expensive furniture, modern fixtures, and items related to a luxury lifestyle made it explicitly clear that these flats were prepared with immense grandeur. The investigating agency is now calculating every single paisa spent on their interior decoration along with the actual purchase price of these flats.
What Was Recovered During the Raids? (The Treasure of Kubera)
During the marathon raids that lasted all day Thursday, the EOU team laid hands on massive amounts of movable and immovable property documents:
Cash and Gold: During the search, approximately 9 lakh rupees in cash and 500 grams (half a kilo) of gold and gold jewelry valued at around 75 lakh rupees were recovered.
Bank Accounts and FDs: A total of 21 bank accounts in the names of the engineer and his family members were identified, and the EOU got the deposited amount of around 25 lakh rupees frozen.
Land and Flat Documents: A heavy volume of registry papers related to the purchase of land and flats in Patna, Danapur, and Bhagalpur, among other places, was found. Additionally, documents regarding heavy investments in 17 policies of LIC and other insurance companies were also seized.
Interesting Aspect: Bribe Money Deposited in Mother-in-Law's Account!
The most shocking and interesting revelation in this entire matter was the bizarre tactic adopted by Executive Engineer Arvind Chaudhary to launder black money acquired through corruption and commissions. The investigation revealed that large sums of bribe money were directly transferred to the bank account of his mother-in-law (Meera Jaiswal) to evade the eyes of agencies. The investigating agency is now deeply examining the financial records of properties created in the name of his wife, Meha Rani, and other family members.
Accumulating immense wealth by a government engineer within a short service period of just a mere 12 years stands as a living example of how certain corrupt officers are hollowing out the system. This case of two luxurious flats found in a posh Danapur apartment, decoration worth lakhs, half a kilo of gold, and benami properties remains a major topic of discussion in the administrative corridors of Bihar. The EOU is now preparing to examine bank lockers and take further legal action, which is expected to unravel many more major secrets behind this ill-gotten wealth.
