Grand Preparations for Shravani Mela in Muzaffarpur: Municipal Commissioner Conducts Surprise Inspection of Baba Garibnath Temple and Kanwaria Route, Issues Strict Directives
Following the lines of famous Deoghar, a massive surge of Shiva devotees (Kanwarias) throng Baba Garibnath Temple in Muzaffarpur during the holy month of Sawan. To ensure that the upcoming Shravani Mela concludes peacefully, smoothly, and securely, the district administration and municipal corporation have already rolled up their sleeves. In this regard, Muzaffarpur's Municipal Commissioner, along with administrative officials and a technical team, conducted an intensive inspection of the historic Baba Garibnath Temple premises and key Kanwaria routes in the city. During the inspection, he assessed the arrangements and issued strict directives to officials to ensure all preparations are fool-proof before the fair commences.
Main Focus and Assessment of Arrangements During Inspection
During the Shravani Mela, millions of Kanwarias and devotees from all corners of the country arrive in Muzaffarpur to offer water to Baba Garibnath. To ensure that Kanwarias do not face any inconvenience, the Municipal Commissioner inspected the entire route on foot. He closely evaluated the security arrangements around the temple sanctum sanctorum, barricading, drinking water facilities, and cleanliness arrangements.
During the inspection, it was observed that municipal arrangements at several places along the fair route were inadequate, for which officials were immediately pulled up and bound to correct them. The Municipal Commissioner explicitly stated that no compromise whatsoever will be tolerated with the faith and security of Shiva devotees.
Strict Directives to Engineers to Cover Open Drains and Repair Roads
During the inspection, the Municipal Commissioner noticed open drains and dilapidated roads at several points along the path, posing a risk of accidents for Kanwarias. Taking this seriously, he ordered the executive engineers of the municipal corporation and contractors present on the spot to immediately cover open drains with slabs or meshes and urgently carry out necessary road repairs.
He instructed that wherever there are potholes on the main route and streets of the fair, they should be fixed with gravel and pitching so that Kanwarias walking barefoot do not suffer any injury or trouble. Additionally, orders were given to complete the cleaning of the drainage system on time to tackle water-logging issues.
Special Night Cleaning and Lighting Arrangements
Kanwarias move back and forth day and night during the Shravani Mela. Keeping this in mind, the Municipal Commissioner directed that a special road-cleaning campaign must begin on a war footing starting tonight. Special vehicles will be deployed for garbage collection, and sanitization work on main city roads will be accelerated.
Furthermore, instructions were issued to ensure adequate lighting along the Kanwaria route so that pilgrims traveling at night do not face any difficulty. Directives were given to immediately replace faulty street lights and install additional high-mast lights at dark spots.
Security, Drinking Water, and Health Facilities
The administration is working on a multi-tiered plan regarding the Shravani Mela. During the inspection, the Municipal Commissioner placed special emphasis on the following points:
Availability of Drinking Water: Tube wells and water tankers will be arranged at various spots along the Kanwaria route for pure drinking water.
Health Camps: Medical camps will be set up around the temple and key transit points, where doctors and life-saving medicines will remain available at all times.
Toilet Facilities: Construction and regular cleaning of temporary and mobile toilets for male and female Kanwarias will be ensured.
This surprise inspection conducted by the Muzaffarpur Municipal Commissioner is a testament to the fact that the administration is completely serious and vigilant regarding the Shravani Mela this time. If all instructions are implemented on the ground by engineers and officials within the stipulated timeframe, Shiva devotees coming for the darshan of Baba Garibnath this year will experience an extremely smooth and clean environment. Local citizens and shopkeepers have also welcomed this administrative initiative and pledged their full cooperation in making the fair a success.
