Massive Preparations in Sultanganj; BDO, CO, and Police Team Inspect Parking and Police Accommodation Sites
Sultanganj (Bhagalpur): Administrative preparations for the world-famous Shravani Mela, held on the banks of the north-flowing Ganga in Sultanganj, are now in their final stages. Prioritizing the safety, convenience, and smooth traffic management of Kanwariyas, a joint team of the block administration and the police department conducted a detailed inspection of the fair area on Wednesday. BDO Sanjeev Kumar, CO Raman Kumar, and Station House Officer (SHO) Dhananjay Kumar reviewed the critical locations that will serve as the backbone for controlling crowds and maintaining law and order during the upcoming Shravani Mela.
Focus of Inspection: Parking and Police Accommodation
Given the arrival of lakhs of Kanwariyas during the Shravani Mela, the administration has implemented robust traffic and security arrangements this year. During the inspection, the team of officials focused primarily on two key aspects:
Selection of 11 Parking Sites: There is immense pressure on vehicular traffic in Sultanganj during the fair. Keeping this in mind, the administration has identified a total of 11 parking sites in and around Sultanganj this year. The officials inspected these sites meticulously to ensure that there are no obstructions to vehicle movement and that the surge in vehicles does not increase crowd pressure on the Kanwariya walking path.
12 Police Accommodation Sites: To make the security apparatus impenetrable, the administration has divided the entire fair area into several sectors. For this purpose, 12 police accommodation sites have been prepared. These sites will facilitate the police personnel and magistrates deployed in the area, allowing them to stay, patrol, and respond swiftly to emergency situations.
Officials' Message: "No Compromise on Security"
During the inspection, BDO Sanjeev Kumar stated that ensuring a smooth journey for Kanwariyas is their top priority this year. He said, "We are rectifying all the shortcomings that were observed in previous years. The parking sites have been selected in such a way that traffic congestion in the city is avoided."
CO Raman Kumar mentioned that proper barricading and lighting arrangements are being made at all selected sites. He added that while selecting police accommodation sites, care has been taken to ensure they are near sensitive sections of the fair path, allowing the police to reach any spot instantly in case of an untoward incident.
SHO Dhananjay Kumar clarified that there would be no compromise on security. He stated, "Police personnel in plain clothes will also be deployed in the fair area. The entire region will be monitored through CCTV cameras and drones, for which all police accommodation sites have been linked to a main control room."
Organized Fair: Administrative Strategy
The action plan prepared by the administration includes several other critical aspects:
Traffic Control: In addition to the 11 identified parking sites, 'No Entry' zones will be created at major intersections to ensure heavy vehicles do not inconvenience the Kanwariyas.
Emergency Route: Routes passing through police accommodation sites have been marked as 'Ambulance Corridors.'
Communication and Coordination: The administration will also operate 'Help Desks' in coordination with local representatives and volunteers.
Why Is This Year's Preparation Special?
Learning from the experiences of previous years, the administration has adopted a more scientific and practical approach this year. Parking sites have been decentralized so that vehicular pressure is not concentrated in any single location. Meanwhile, police accommodation sites have been distributed to ensure the 'response time' of the police remains minimal across the entire 105-kilometer Kanwariya path.
Appeal to the Public
During the inspection, administrative officials appealed to the residents of Sultanganj and visiting pilgrims to follow traffic rules and use only the designated parking sites. They emphasized that while the administration is fully dedicated to serving the Kanwariyas, the cooperation of the general public is essential for maintaining safety and hygiene.

This visit by the Sultanganj administration is not merely a formality but proof of their seriousness toward conducting a safe Shravani Mela. With 11 parking sites and 12 police accommodation sites, the administration has attempted to create a structure that will further strengthen the faith of millions of pilgrims. Now, the devotees are just waiting for the day when the devotional journey from Sultanganj to Deoghar begins with chants of 'Bol-Bam'.
