Special Program Organized Under 'Nikshay Poshan Ahaar' Scheme at Sanhoula Community Health Center; Health Administration Firm and Active Regarding Distribution of Nutritional Supplies and Financial Aid Among TB Patients

Bhagalpur/Sanhoula, News Correspondent: The health department is continuously striving to translate the government's resolve of making the country Tuberculosis (TB)-free into reality. In this sequence, a special health camp and review meeting was organized under the 'Nikshay Poshan Ahaar' (Nikshay Nutrition Scheme) at the Community Health Center (CHC) Sanhoula in Bhagalpur district. The primary objective of this program was to provide better nutritional support to identified TB patients in the region and streamline their treatment process, thereby completely eliminating obstacles in TB treatment caused by malnutrition.

The Nikshay Poshan Scheme and Its Significance: Battle Against a Severe Disease

Health experts believe that to fight a serious and contagious disease like TB, medicines alone are not sufficient; the body requires an equally high standard of nutrition:

Synergy Between Nutrition and Treatment: During the program, medical officers of the Community Health Center explained that often due to financial constraints and poverty, TB patients are unable to consume regular and nutritious diets, which weakens their bodies and prevents medicines from working effectively.

Objective of the Scheme: Under this important government scheme, registered TB patients are directly provided financial assistance and nutritional supplies to purchase wholesome food during the entire duration of their treatment.

Special Initiative at Community Health Center Sanhoula

During this program held within the Sanhoula hospital premises, the hospital management and health workers collectively reviewed the condition of TB patients who arrived from various villages in the region:

Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) and Support: Hospital health managers stated that assistance funds are being sent directly via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) into the bank accounts of all notified TB patients registered on the Nikshay portal. Additionally, medicine kits and nutritional counseling are being provided to patients locally in a timely manner.

Patient Registration Process: New patients whose test reports tested positive were also identified at the camp. Their documents and bank account details were updated on the 'Nikshay Portal' to ensure they receive the benefits of this scheme without any delay.

Directives and Counseling by Medical Officers

Addressing the program, the in-charge medical officer of Community Health Center Sanhoula strictly instructed health workers and ANMs to remain in constant contact with the TB patients in their respective areas:

Emphasis on Medication Regularity: Appealing to the patients, the officers urged them not to discontinue their medications midway. TB is completely curable when the full dosage is taken regularly.

Special Care for Diet: Patients were advised to use the government financial assistance exclusively for nutritious dietary items (such as milk, eggs, green vegetables, fruits, and lentils) to strengthen their immune systems.

Positive Enthusiasm Witnessed Among Villagers and Patients

Patients and their relatives who arrived at this health camp organized in the Sanhoula hospital appreciated this initiative by the government and the local health administration:

Patients' Feedback: Several patients shared that timely advice and nutritional support are leading to rapid improvements in their health. Whereas they previously experienced weakness and fatigue, they now feel significantly better than before.

Role of Health Workers: ASHA workers and TB coordinators of the area have been assigned the responsibility of conducting door-to-door visits to ensure that no TB patient is deprived of the scheme's benefits.

This program organized under the 'Nikshay Poshan Ahaar' scheme at Community Health Center Sanhoula is a solid step toward the improvement of healthcare services in rural belts and the eradication of TB. Until access to health and nutrition is ensured for the last person in society, the dream of a healthy society cannot be fulfilled. This initiative by the Sanhoula hospital will undoubtedly prove to be a milestone in making the region TB-free.
