Weather Update in Bihar: Red/Orange Alert for Extremely Heavy Rain in Siwan and Gopalganj, Skies to Remain Cloudy in Patna and Other Districts
Monsoon has once again become active in Bihar, completely changing weather patterns across several districts in the state. According to the latest forecast from the Meteorological Center in Patna, heavy showers are expected in multiple regions. In particular, a warning for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall has been issued for a few districts in north-western and north-central Bihar. Meanwhile, the capital city of Patna and its surrounding areas will witness overcast skies with possibilities of light to moderate drizzle in a few places.
Warning of Extremely Heavy Rain in Siwan and Gopalganj
The meteorological department has issued its most severe warning for the districts of Siwan and Gopalganj. Torrential to extremely heavy rainfall is highly likely in both of these districts over the next few hours.
In view of this, local administration and disaster management departments have been instructed to remain on high alert.
Due to continuous or expected heavy downpours, residents may face issues such as waterlogging in low-lying areas and a sudden surge in water levels of small drains and rivers.
The weather department has appealed to local residents to venture out only if absolutely necessary and to stay in safe locations.
Alert for Heavy Rain and Lightning in Other Districts Too
Apart from Siwan and Gopalganj, a yellow/orange alert for heavy rainfall has been issued for several other north-eastern and western districts of Bihar:
Kishanganj, Supaul, and West Champaran: Heavy downpours accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning are feared in these districts.
Bouts of Strong Winds: Gusty winds blowing at speeds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour are expected in parts of north-central, north-eastern, south-eastern regions, as well as West Champaran and Saran.
Farmers and the general public have been advised not to take shelter under trees or near electricity poles during adverse weather.
Current Situation in Patna and Surrounding Districts
The capital city of Patna and its adjoining areas (such as Vaishali, Hajipur, Bhojpur, etc.) have had overcast skies since morning. Although there is no heavy rain warning issued here, scattered light showers or drizzles may occur amidst the moving clouds.
The cloud cover has provided some relief from humid heat, though high humidity levels may still cause discomfort.
Maximum temperatures are being recorded near normal levels (around 33°C).
Special Advice and Safety Measures for Farmers
While this rain is considered beneficial for paddy crops in Bihar's agricultural regions, the threat of lightning strikes has simultaneously escalated. The Disaster Management Department has issued an advisory specifically for farmers:
Avoid Going to Fields: Farmer brothers should not venture into open fields whenever dark clouds gather or thunder rumbles.
Take Shelter in Pucca Houses: As soon as bad weather sets in, immediately take shelter inside a concrete building or a safe shed.
Keep Away from Trees and Electrical Equipment: The general public should maintain a safe distance from tall trees, metal fences, and electricity transformers or poles.
