Bhagalpur, Special Correspondent: In accordance with the directives of the Panchayati Raj Department, ‘Panchayat Vikas Diwas’ and ‘Panchayat Karya Diwas’ were successfully and comprehensively organized on Sunday in the historic Mahesi Gram Panchayat under the Sultanganj block of Silk City Bhagalpur. Recognizing the significance of this special public welfare program, Bhagalpur District Magistrate (DM) Alankrita Pandey herself arrived at the Panchayat Bhavan located in Mahesi Gram Panchayat to closely inspect the activities of ‘Panchayat Karya Diwas’ held there. The DM’s surprise inspection and direct interactive style generated immense enthusiasm and proactivity among local villagers and the administrative machinery. During this visit, open discussions were held on the piped drinking water scheme, the action plan for the upcoming financial year, and the prompt resolution of public grievances.

According to the scheduled roster, proceedings of Panchayat Karya Diwas were underway at the Mahesi Panchayat Bhavan on Sunday in the presence of public representatives and villagers when District Magistrate Alankrita Pandey arrived to take stock of the arrangements.

Direct Interaction with the Public: Addressing the villagers present at the event, the DM stated that the state government has clear directives to organize ‘Panchayat Karya Diwas’ on the last Sunday of every month so that government and administrative schemes can be implemented directly at the grassroots level.

Appeal to Voice Problems Openly: She urged the villagers to place their problems and needs forward without any hesitation so that the administration can ensure their time-bound and effective resolution.

Drinking Water Issue and Strict Warning of Resolution Within 30 Days

The central theme of this Panchayat Development Day was designated as the ‘Drinking Water Issue’, which underwent detailed deliberation.

Coordination with PHED: The District Magistrate explicitly told the villagers that if there is any problem related to drinking water or the piped water scheme in their ward or settlement, they should raise it immediately. Immediate coordination will be established with the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) to streamline water supply.

Support Camps and Accountability of Officials: The DM sternly warned officials that grievances received through support camps organized in panchayats must be resolved within 30 days without fail. If any official or worker is unable to fulfill their responsibilities, strict action will be initiated against them at the state government level.

Discussion on GPDP 2026-27 and 16th Finance Commission Schemes

During the program, important proposals were tabled in the Gram Sabha concerning upcoming development strategies and financial provisions:

Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP 2026-27): The final Gram Sabha for the Gram Panchayat Development Plan for the fiscal year 2026-27 was convened, outlining the development works to be executed in villages utilizing funds allocated by the 16th Finance Commission. Consensus was reached on proposals related to road construction, brick-paving of lanes and drains, and sanitation.

New Applications for Ration Cards: Discussions were held during the meeting to include eligible and impoverished families deprived of ration cards in the scheme on a priority basis. The DM directed that individuals who have not yet reaped the benefits of ration cards must submit their applications immediately so that legitimate and needy beneficiaries can be added to the list.

Review of Schools, Anganwadis, and the 'TB-Free India' Campaign

Alongside development works, special emphasis was placed on issues related to social security and health:

Education and Child Development: The District Magistrate reviewed the functioning of government schools and Anganwadi centers within the panchayat area. Directives were issued to maintain local-level monitoring to improve student attendance, nutritional food distribution, and the standard of teaching.

TB-Free India Campaign: Detailed information regarding the central government’s ambitious ‘TB-Free India’ campaign was imparted to the villagers. Through the health department, people were made aware of the disease's symptoms, free screening, and treatment.

On the occasion of this high-level Panchayat Development Day organized in Mahesi Gram Panchayat, local Panchayat Mukhiya Rita Devi, alongside the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Sultanganj, Block Panchayati Raj Officer (BPRO), MO, and several key officials from various departments along with a large gathering of villagers, were present.
