Major Negligence by Purnia University: Students' Academic Data Not Updated on DigiLocker, Crisis Looms Over Careers and Higher Education

Purnia: A highly concerning and serious news story has emerged regarding Purnia University, the largest higher education institution in Bihar's Purnia division. Due to the alleged apathy and lax system of the university administration, the academic data of thousands of students from various constituent and affiliated colleges under Purnia University is not fully up-to-date on the country's national digital platform, 'DigiLocker'. Because the data has not been updated, students are facing immense difficulties in securing jobs across the country and abroad, verifying various competitive exams, and taking admission into other prestigious universities nationwide for higher education.

Heavy anger is prevalent among the student community over this serious issue, and student leaders have adopted an aggressive stance against the university administration.

Student Leader Saurabh's Strict Stance: Warning Given to University Administration

Seeing this tampering with the students' future, student leader Saurabh has raised this matter strongly. Taking the Purnia University administration to task, student leader Saurabh stated that this technical and administrative negligence by the university is a direct blow to the students' future.

Playing with the Future: While speaking to media and university officials, student leader Saurabh said that in today's digital era when the entire country and education system depend on online mediums, Purnia University's failure to upload mark sheets, provisional certificates, and degrees onto the DigiLocker platform is extremely shameful.

Ultimatum and Demand: The student leader warned the university administration that if the academic data of students from all sessions is not uploaded and fully updated on DigiLocker as soon as possible, student organizations will be forced to stage massive protests and lock down the Purnia University headquarters, for which the university administration will be solely responsible.

What is the Problem and What Difficulties Are Students Facing?

DigiLocker is a government digital platform through which citizens can securely store their important documents and academic certificates in digital form and easily verify them anywhere. However, for Purnia University students, this platform is currently proving useless.

Obstacle in Higher Education: Students who complete graduation or other courses from Purnia University and apply for masters or professional courses in other central universities, IIMs, IITs, or other higher institutions across the country are facing hurdles in the digital verification of their documents. In many places, admissions remain in limbo due to the unavailability of data.

Roadblock in Jobs and Placements: Today, online verification of documents has become mandatory in government and non-government jobs and placements. Due to data not being updated on DigiLocker, many students are being deprived of job opportunities because of a lack of documents or failure of verification.

Compulsion to Run Around: Despite it being a digital medium, students are forced to make rounds of Purnia University just for small tasks and verification of their certificates, which wastes both their time and money.

University Administration's Clarification and Continuing Inertia

When this matter gained momentum and student leader Saurabh and other students expressed sharp reactions, activity accelerated in the university corridors.

Responsibility of IT Cell and Examination Department: Experts say that Purnia University's IT cell and examination department have failed to sync student data onto the National Academic Depository (NAD) or DigiLocker portals on time due to a lack of technical coordination.

Assurance of Improvement: However, seeing the mounting pressure, some responsible university officials say that they are aware of this technical problem and will soon expedite the process of updating data by talking to the concerned agency so that relief can be provided to students.

Thousands of students of Purnia University are currently passing through a phase of uncertainty regarding their future. It remains to be seen how quickly the university administration can find a permanent solution to this problem following student leader Saurabh's warning and the mounting pressure from students.
