He directly demanded an updated status report on this project from the corporation's Mayor and expressed deep concern over the lack of implementation of proposals passed in previous board meetings.
Why is the Concrete Construction of the Fardo Drain Necessary?
The Fardo drain is a critical waterway regarding the drainage system of Muzaffarpur city. Wastewater from a large part of the city flows through this drain. However, due to poor maintenance and the fact that the drain remains open, it has turned into a major hazard for local residents.
Being open, it accumulates heaps of garbage, emitting foul odors and creating a constant threat of mosquito infestation and the outbreak of contagious diseases. Additionally, there remains a major safety risk for people living on both sides of the drain and pedestrians passing through the area. Recognizing the gravity of this public issue, MLC Banshidhar Brajwasi raised the matter forcefully during the corporation board meeting and strongly advocated for its concrete covering.
MLC Banshidhar Brajwasi Poses Tough Questions to Mayor and Officials
During the board meeting, MLC Banshidhar Brajwasi questioned the functioning style of the municipal corporation, stating that vital works related to city development remain buried inside files. Addressing the Mayor and municipal officials present, he demanded an updated status of the steps taken so far regarding the concrete construction of the Fardo drain.
MLC Brajwasi specifically objected to the fact that several proposals in this regard had been unanimously passed in previous board meetings, yet the ground reality of those proposals remains at zero. He stated that the public has elected representatives for development work, and such dilly-dallying on basic public issues will not be tolerated under any circumstances. He demanded a clear timeline ranging from the tendering of this project to the commencement of construction work.
Expresses Deep Concern Over the Status of Past Proposals
Speaking at the meeting, Banshidhar Brajwasi also expressed resentment over why the proposals passed in the municipal corporation board are not implemented on time. He noted that extensive discussions on the concrete construction and beautification of the Fardo drain took place in previous sessions, and in-principle agreement was also reached, but administrative inertia prevented the files from moving forward.
Drawing the house's attention, he warned that if the drain is not covered in time, city residents will face severe waterlogging problems during the upcoming monsoon season. Supporting his statement, several other councilors also highlighted the problems of their respective wards and expressed their displeasure against the civic administration.
Stand of the Municipal Commissioner and Mayor
When the MLC and councilors raised a barrage of questions during the meeting, top officials of the municipal corporation and the Municipal Commissioner responded. The Municipal Commissioner assured that files and previous proposals related to the concrete construction of the Fardo drain are being reviewed. He stated that technical hurdles in the project will be resolved soon, and further procedures will be initiated as per rules to provide relief to city residents.
Meanwhile, the Mayor also assured that working priorities will be assigned to this project, keeping the sentiments and concerns of the board members in mind.
