Municipal Corporation Intensifies Administrative Preparations for the World-Famous Shravani Mela; Encroachments Removed in View of the Surging Crowds of Devotees at Barari Ganga Ghat, Barricading Underway on a War Footing for Security and Crowd Control

Bhagalpur, Special Correspondent: To welcome Kanwariyas traveling to Deoghar and crores of Shiva devotees participating in the world-famous Shravani Mela, and to make their journey seamless, the Bhagalpur district administration and municipal corporation have rolled up their sleeves. Preparations at the administrative level have begun on a war footing right now to avert any kind of inconvenience during the fair. In this context, keeping in mind the massive influx of pilgrims arriving from across the country and abroad during the mela, Barari Ganga Ghat—one of the main faith centers—and its surrounding routes have been made entirely free of encroachments. At the same time, robust barricading work is progressing rapidly to ensure smooth traffic flow and crowd management.

Massive Influx of Shiva Devotees Surges at Barari Ganga Ghat

On the sacred occasion of the month of Shravan, Barari Ganga Ghat in Bhagalpur holds special religious significance alongside Sultanganj. Thousands of devotees take a holy dip in the Ganga here to resolve to undertake the journey to Baba Baidyanath Dham or perform Jalabhishek at local temples:

The Challenge of Crowd Management: Every year, from the first day of Sawan until the final Somwari, Barari Ghat is packed to capacity with virtually no standing room. Traffic jams and unorganized stalls along the narrow pathways of the ghat used to cause severe difficulties for pilgrims.

Administrative Vigilance: This time, anticipating the situation in advance, the municipal corporation and district administration decided to take strict measures so that Kanwariyas and local citizens face no form of hardship.

Roads Widened: Extensive Anti-Encroachment Drive Conducted

Illigal shanties, pushcarts, and permanent/temporary encroachments on the main thoroughfares and connecting roads leading toward Barari Ghat used to trigger traffic gridlocks every year:

Municipal Corporation's Bulldozer Action: A special team of the municipal corporation, in the presence of police forces, carried out an intensive anti-encroachment drive on the Barari Ghat route. During this operation, shopkeepers illegally occupying roadside spaces were cleared out, and the pathways were thoroughly cleaned.

Widening of Routes: With the removal of encroachments, the roads have become significantly wider, providing ample space for vehicles and walking Kanwariyas to move back and forth. Local residents have praised this administrative step, stating that it will provide massive relief from the long-standing problem of traffic jams.

Robust Barricading for Security and Crowd Management

To tackle any untoward incidents like stampedes during the fair and to maintain smooth traffic arrangements, foolproof security measures are being executed by the municipal corporation and police administration:

Safe Corridors: Sturdy steel and bamboo barricades are being erected along the routes leading to Barari Ghat and the bathing ghats. This will allow women, children, and elderly individuals coming for holy baths to reach the ghat in an orderly, queued manner.

Deployment of Police Forces: Special watch towers and control rooms are being established at sensitive and crowded points for the deployment of police personnel and magistrates, who will keep a sharp eye on every activity through CCTV cameras.

Special Emphasis on Drinking Water, Lighting, and Sanitation

Officials of the municipal corporation stated that modern and improved facilities will be provided to Kanwariyas visiting this Shravani Mela:

Mobile Toilets and Drinking Water: Dozens of temporary mobile toilets are being installed along Barari Ghat and its surrounding routes. Additionally, handpumps and water purifier booths are being set up for pure drinking water.

Robust Lighting Arrangements: To ensure pilgrims bathing in the Ganga at night face no inconvenience, high-mast lights and colorful illumination are being specially arranged across the entire ghat premises and approach paths.

These preparations being undertaken by the Bhagalpur Municipal Corporation at Barari Ganga Ghat for the Shravani Mela testify to the fact that the administration is in no mood to show any laxity this time. Freeing the ghats from encroachments and developing barricading and other infrastructural facilities on a war footing will make this year's Kanwar journey extremely secure, smooth, and enjoyable. Silk City is fully prepared to welcome Shiva devotees.
