PHED Releases New Water Supply Schedule; Separate Timings Fixed for April–September and October–March

Bhagalpur: To ensure the provision of clean, adequate, and accessible drinking water to city residents in Bihar's silk city of Bhagalpur, the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) and the local administration have jointly formulated a comprehensive action plan. With the objective of balancing the difference in water demand and availability across summer and winter seasons, the PHED has established a new and regular water supply schedule. The implementation of this new timetable will alleviate water shortages across various municipal wards and enable citizens to benefit from regularized water supply at fixed times.

Water Supply Timings Modified According to Seasons

According to official guidelines issued by the PHED department, water supply hours have been divided into two major seasonal cycles of the year to prevent water wastage and ensure smooth delivery to every household:

Summer Schedule (April to September):

Due to higher temperatures and increased water consumption during this period, the morning water supply timing has been set from 5:00 AM to 8:00 AM.

Winter Schedule (October to March):

Keeping winter morning chill and public routines in mind during the colder months, the morning water supply timing has been fixed from 6:00 AM to 9:00 AM.

Water Supply Also Scheduled for Afternoon and Evening Hours

In addition to the primary morning session, the department has designated water supply hours during the afternoon and evening to fulfill daily household requirements, which will remain consistent throughout the year:

Afternoon Session: Water supply will be operated from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, ensuring there is no shortage of water for midday chores and cooking needs.

Evening Session: Considering evening household chores and dinner preparations, the water supply will remain operational from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

Local Residents and Administration Response

Local residents of Bhagalpur have welcomed this step taken by the PHED. For a long time, complaints regarding low water pressure or untimely water supply had been surfacing from various parts of the city. Under the new rules, operators of water treatment plants and pump houses have now been strictly instructed to adhere firmly to the stipulated timings.
