Retired Teacher Couple Robbed After Being Lured with Lift Offer; ₹1 Lakh Cash and Jewellery Stolen

Muzaffarpur: A shocking case of robbery under the pretext of offering a lift has come to light in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district. Retired teacher Subhash Chandra Jha and his wife, who were travelling from Purnia to Sitamarhi, were allegedly robbed by three men who posed as bank employees. The accused convinced the elderly couple to board their car, later looted ₹1 lakh in cash, gold jewellery, and other valuables, and abandoned them on the way before fleeing. The victims have lodged a complaint at Brahmpura Police Station, and the police have launched an investigation.

Incident Took Place Near Chandni Chowk

According to the complaint, retired teacher Subhash Chandra Jha and his wife were travelling from Purnia to Sitamarhi when they reached Muzaffarpur. Near Chandni Chowk, they met three young men who introduced themselves as bank employees. The trio claimed they were heading in the same direction and offered the couple a lift.

Believing their story, the elderly couple accepted the offer and got into the car. Initially, the men engaged them in casual conversation, giving them no reason to suspect foul play.

Robbed After Winning Their Trust

After travelling some distance, the accused allegedly distracted the couple and forcibly took away their valuables. According to the victims, the robbers threatened them when they tried to resist. The criminals escaped with approximately ₹1 lakh in cash, gold ornaments, and other valuables, leaving the couple stranded on the roadside.

The shaken couple later sought help from local residents and reached Brahmpura Police Station to report the incident.

Based on the written complaint filed by the victims, the police have registered a case and initiated an investigation. Officers visited the crime scene and have started collecting evidence.
