Darbhanga: An unfinished stretch of the Sisauni–Shankar Lohar main road in Darbhanga has once again highlighted how unresolved land disputes continue to hinder infrastructure development. On Saturday, an overloaded truck carrying sand became stuck in the muddy, incomplete portion of the road, forcing villagers and local residents to spend nearly seven hours rescuing the vehicle. Traffic remained completely disrupted during the operation, with long queues of vehicles forming on both sides of the road.
According to local residents, nearly 25 metres of the road has remained incomplete for a long time due to an ongoing land dispute. Despite repeated appeals to the district administration and the concerned department, the issue has yet to be resolved. Villagers alleged that if the dispute had been settled in time and the remaining stretch completed, the incident could have been avoided.
Unfinished Road Causing Daily Hardships
The Sisauni–Shankar Lohar main road serves as a vital transportation link connecting several villages in the region. Farmers use the route to transport agricultural produce to markets, students travel to schools and colleges, and traders depend on it for the movement of goods and supplies.

On Saturday morning, an overloaded truck carrying sand attempted to cross the unfinished portion of the road. As soon as it entered the muddy section, the ground gave way and the truck's rear wheels sank into the soft soil.
The driver made repeated attempts to free the vehicle, but each effort caused it to sink even deeper. Within a short time, traffic came to a complete standstill, and long queues of vehicles formed on both sides of the road.
Seven-Hour Rescue Operation
After receiving information about the incident, villagers from nearby areas rushed to the spot. Initially, they tried to pull the truck out using ropes and tractors, but those efforts were unsuccessful.
Later, an excavator (JCB) and other heavy machinery were brought in to assist with the rescue. After nearly seven hours of continuous effort, the truck was finally pulled out safely, allowing traffic to resume.
During the operation, many commuters remained stranded for hours, while others were forced to take alternative routes to reach their destinations.
