Scheduled Caste-Tribe Employees Association Meets District Education Officer; Demands Immediate Resolution of Teachers' Issues

BHAGALPUR: A delegation of the 'Scheduled Caste-Tribe Employees Association' met with the District Education Officer (DEO) on Saturday to strengthen the educational environment in the district and address the long-pending grievances of teachers. Led by the Association’s Secretary, Sohil Das, the delegation briefed the top education department officials in detail about the various difficulties faced by teachers working in government schools across the district.

Major Issues and Demands of Teachers

During the meeting, Association Secretary Sohil Das drew attention to several burning issues that have been a cause of discontent among teachers for quite some time. Sohil Das emphasized that unless the fundamental problems of teachers are resolved, achieving the goal of improving the quality of education in schools will remain difficult.

The key demands raised by the delegation include:

Promotion Matters: The promotion of hundreds of teachers in the district has been pending for a long time. The Association demanded that a Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) meeting be convened immediately to grant eligible teachers their rightful dues.

Salary Payments and Arrears: Sohil Das expressed strong dissatisfaction over irregularities in salary payments and the long-pending arrears of many teachers. He stated that the failure to receive timely pay demoralizes teachers, directly impacting the teaching-learning process.

Transfer Policy: The delegation urged for transparency in the transfer process and requested sympathetic consideration for transfer applications based on mutual consent or special circumstances.

Freedom from Harassment in Offices: The Association Secretary emphasized that many teachers are forced to make repeated trips for various administrative tasks, wasting their valuable time. They demanded that this process be digitized and simplified.

DEO Provides Assurance

The District Education Officer listened to the delegation’s concerns with seriousness. He assured them that the department is sensitive to the problems faced by teachers. He stated that issues solvable at the district level would be resolved on a priority basis. To rectify errors related to salaries and arrears, he directed the concerned clerical branch to take immediate action.

Association’s Stance: 'Dignity of Teachers is Paramount'

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Secretary Sohil Das stated that the Scheduled Caste-Tribe Employees Association has always struggled for the rights of its members and teachers. He clarified that the Association does not seek conflict but wishes to act as a bridge between the administration and the teachers.

He further added, "We want teachers in Bhagalpur district schools to have an environment where they can impart education to students without any mental stress. If there is no positive action on our demands, the Association will be compelled to reconsider its strategy in the future."

Association’s Role in Educational Reform

A positive aspect of the meeting was that the Association did not just discuss problems but also promised cooperation in educational reform. The Association stated that they are not only fighting for teachers' demands but will also fully cooperate with the department in achieving goals such as 'Nipun Bharat' in government schools.

This meeting between the Bhagalpur Education Department and the Scheduled Caste-Tribe Employees Association is being considered significant. The stance adopted by the administration regarding teachers' issues has sparked hope among the teaching community. This initiative by the delegation is being viewed positively in the district's academic circles. It remains to be seen how quickly and effectively the administration's assurances are implemented.

Other office-bearers of the Association and several senior teachers were also present on this occasion, collectively reiterating their demands. The Association has made it clear that they will remain in constant contact with the department to ensure that the problems are resolved in a time-bound manner.
