Tragedy on the Shahkund-Asarganj Road; Uncontrolled Hyva Truck Crushes Two E-Autos, Woman and Toddler Killed
SHAHKUND (Bhagalpur): A tragic accident on the Shahkund-Asarganj main road in Bhagalpur district on Sunday evening snuffed out the happiness of two families. A high-speed, uncontrolled Hyva (truck) struck two electric autos, resulting in the tragic death of two passengers and leaving four others critically injured. The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the entire region. The deceased include a woman from Munger district and a one-and-a-half-year-old infant.
The Sequence of Events
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred on Sunday evening. Two electric autos were traveling on the Shahkund-Asarganj road when a Hyva truck, approaching from the opposite direction at a high speed, lost control and rammed into them. The impact was so severe that the e-autos were mangled, and the passengers were thrown onto the road.
After causing the accident, the accused driver managed to flee the scene with the vehicle. Local residents immediately alerted the police and rushed the injured to the Shahkund Community Health Center (CHC) for treatment.
Identification of the Deceased and Injured
Senior Medical Officer at the Shahkund CHC, Dr. Khustar Azmi, confirmed the accident and provided details of the victims:
Bibi Rabia Khatoon (45): A resident of Bangama, Munger district.
Itisha Sharma (1.5 years old): A resident of Pipra, under the Tarapur police station area of Munger district. The child was the daughter of Bambam Sharma.
Among the four injured, two are from Munger district, while one is from Kajraili and another from Shahkund. They are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital. The family members of the toddler, holding onto hope, have shifted her to Bhagalpur for advanced medical care.
Protest by Angry Villagers and Police Action
Upon receiving news of the incident, a large crowd of local villagers gathered at the scene and began a protest, demanding compensation for the victims and the immediate arrest of the truck driver. The situation led to a road blockade, which paralyzed traffic for several hours.
Police from the Shahkund station reached the site upon receiving information. They have seized both damaged autos and brought them to the station. The police have launched an investigation and are currently scanning CCTV footage from the vicinity to identify the truck and its driver. Officials have assured the public that strict legal action will be taken against the absconding driver.

The Shahkund-Asarganj route is notorious for accidents caused by speeding vehicles. Due to the rampant movement of heavy vehicles on this road, accidents occur frequently. Local residents argue that the administration must impose speed limits for heavy vehicles on this route and conduct regular checks to prevent the recurrence of such tragedies in the future.
A moment of negligence has claimed two innocent lives. This is an irreparable loss for the grieving families. The police have registered a case and are actively pursuing the driver.
