Great news has emerged for the development of Muzaffarpur's famous Baba Garibnath Temple, often called the Deoghar of Bihar, and its surrounding areas. Administrative preparations regarding the construction work of the long-awaited 'Baba Garibnath Corridor' have been completed. Immediately after the conclusion of the world-famous Shravani Mela, ground-level work on this ambitious corridor will commence in the month of September. The total cost of this entire project is estimated to be around Rs 25 crore. The main objective of this project is to provide world-class facilities to the lakhs of Shiva devotees visiting from across the country and abroad, and to completely revamp the temple premises and its surrounding areas.
What Works Are Included in the Corridor Project?
Under the Baba Garibnath Corridor project, the entire infrastructure surrounding this primary religious center of Muzaffarpur city will be modernized. The following key works will be undertaken:
Grand Temple Beautification: The internal and external parts of the temple premises will be given an attractive look. Better lighting, rest areas, and arrangements to facilitate smooth worship for devotees near the sanctum sanctorum will be built.
Road Widening and Approach Road Development: Narrow paths and roads leading to the temple will be widened so that situations of stampede or traffic jams do not occur even during heavy crowds. Smooth routes for emergency vehicles (ambulances and fire brigades) will be ensured.
Development and Beautification of Sahu Pokhar: The renovation of the historical Sahu Pokhar located near the temple is an important part of this project. Permanent construction of ghats, lighting, pathways, and benches for sitting around the pond will be arranged, allowing this area to also develop as a beautiful tourist spot.
Pilgrim Facilities: Changing rooms, modern drinking water arrangements, toilet complexes, and sheds will be constructed for kanwarias and Shiva devotees coming from far and wide.
Why Will Work Begin After Shravani Mela?
The Baba Garibnath Temple in Muzaffarpur is the largest center of faith in North Bihar. Every year during the holy month of Shravan (Sawan), lakhs of kanwarias arrive here to offer water to the deity.
Heavy Crowds and Management: During the month of Sawan, there is massive crowd congestion around the temple and its adjacent areas. If construction work were to be initiated during this period, the traffic system could collapse, causing severe inconvenience to devotees.
Administrative Decision: Keeping this in mind, the district administration and temple management have strategically decided to officially commence construction work in September following the peaceful conclusion of Shravani Mela, ensuring the project is finished without disruption within the timeline (12 months).
