Four Workers Critically Injured After Coming into Contact with High-Voltage Power Line During Roof Casting in Motipur

Muzaffarpur: A tragic accident occurred on Thursday in Singaila village under the Motipur police station area of Muzaffarpur district, where four construction workers suffered severe burn injuries after coming into contact with a high-voltage electricity line during the roof casting of an under-construction house.

The incident created panic at the construction site. According to local residents, the contractor and several other workers reportedly fled immediately after the accident. Villagers rushed to the spot, rescued the injured workers, and took them to a nearby hospital, where all four are said to be in critical condition.

Police have assured that appropriate legal action will be taken once a formal complaint is received.

Accident During Roof Casting

According to eyewitnesses, roof casting work was underway at an under-construction house in Singaila village. The workers were handling steel reinforcement bars, construction equipment, and other materials on the rooftop.

During the work, a steel rod or construction equipment reportedly came into contact with a high-voltage overhead power line passing above the building. The powerful electric current spread instantly, severely electrocuting four workers at the site.

The injured workers screamed in pain, triggering panic among those present.

Four Workers Sustain Serious Burn Injuries

All four workers suffered severe burn injuries due to the electric shock. Eyewitnesses said that some of the victims sustained burns over a significant portion of their bodies.

Local residents immediately gathered at the scene and helped rescue the injured workers. After ensuring the electricity supply was disconnected, they carefully brought the victims down from the roof and transported them to a nearby hospital using ambulances and private vehicles.

Doctors admitted the workers and began emergency treatment. Owing to the seriousness of their injuries, they may be referred to a higher medical center for advanced treatment.

Contractor Allegedly Left the Scene

Local residents alleged that the contractor and a few other workers left the site immediately after the accident instead of helping the injured.

The incident has angered villagers, who believe those responsible should have remained at the scene and assisted in the rescue efforts.

Police said this aspect of the case would also be investigated, including whether the contractor complied with mandatory safety regulations at the construction site.

Questions Raised Over Safety Measures

The accident has raised serious concerns about safety standards at construction sites.

Experts say that construction work near high-voltage power lines requires strict safety precautions. Failure to maintain the required clearance from overhead electrical lines can result in fatal accidents.

Proper supervision, insulated tools, protective equipment, and compliance with electrical safety guidelines are considered essential during such work.

Local Residents Rush to Help

Residents of Singaila village acted promptly after the accident.

They arranged transportation for the injured workers and ensured they were taken to the hospital without delay, even before emergency services arrived.

Locals said that timely assistance may have played a crucial role in saving the workers' lives.

Police Begin Investigation

After receiving information about the incident, police reached the construction site and began an investigation.

Officials stated that a detailed inquiry would be conducted once a formal complaint is filed. If negligence or violations of safety regulations are established during the investigation, legal action will be taken against those found responsible.

Electricity Department Also to Be Consulted

Police and district authorities are expected to seek information from the Electricity Department regarding the condition of the high-voltage line and whether any safety guidelines or permissions had been issued for construction near the power line.

Investigators will also examine whether the construction work complied with the prescribed safety clearance norms.

Worker Safety Back in Focus

The incident has once again highlighted concerns over worker safety at construction sites.

Labour safety experts emphasize that construction workers should always be provided with helmets, insulated gloves, safety shoes, and other protective equipment.

They also recommend close coordination with the Electricity Department before beginning work near high-voltage transmission lines.

Administration Assures Action

The local administration has assured that every effort is being made to provide the injured workers with proper medical treatment.

Officials stated that a fair investigation will be conducted and that anyone found responsible for negligence will face legal action in accordance with the law.

The administration has also urged contractors and builders to strictly follow safety regulations to prevent similar accidents in the future.

Investigation Continues

All four injured workers remain hospitalized, and their condition is reported to be critical. Police are recording statements from eyewitnesses and inspecting the construction site while gathering information from the Electricity Department and other relevant agencies.

Officials said the exact cause of the accident and the responsibility of those involved will become clear only after the investigation is completed. If any negligence is established, strict legal action will be taken against the persons responsible.
