High-Level Review of World-Famous Shravani Mela Preparations; Divisional Commissioner, IG, DM, and SSP Jointly Inspect Ganga Ghats and Kanwariya Pathway, Emphasizing Security and Amenities
Bhagalpur, Special Correspondent: The Bhagalpur district administration has shifted into full gear to make the journey of millions of Shiva devotees and kanwarias traveling to Deoghar and Basukinath Dham smooth, safe, and well-organized. In this sequence, to assess the preparations for the world-famous Shravani Mela, Bhagalpur's Divisional Commissioner, Inspector General (IG), District Magistrate (DM), and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), accompanied by senior administrative and police officials, conducted a comprehensive on-site inspection of the mela area. This high-level joint team closely examined Sultanaganj's historic Namami Gange Ghat, Ajgabinath Temple Ghat, the unpaved Kanwariya pathway, and various major Ganga ghats and resting sites across Bhagalpur. Officials issued explicit directives ensuring that all construction works and public utility arrangements are fully completed prior to the commencement of the fair.
Robust Security and Barricading Arrangements at Ganga Ghats
During the Shravani Mela, continuous streams of pilgrims from North Bihar, the Jharkhand border, Sultanaganj, and various Bhagalpur ghats congregate in large numbers. Taking this into account, the joint team of the Commissioner, IG, DM, and SSP first reviewed the security arrangements at the Ganga ghats.
Water Levels and Barricading: In view of fluctuating water levels in the Ganga River, instructions were issued to put robust security measures in place at the ghats. Sturdy bamboo-and-balla underwater barricading is being installed for pilgrims' safety to prevent anyone from entering deep waters.
Deployment of Divers and NDRF: It was decided to deploy adequate numbers of skilled divers alongside National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams at the ghats. Furthermore, motorboats and life jackets must be fully arranged to handle any untoward incidents.
Expansion of Amenities: Drinking Water, Lighting, and German Hangars
During the inspection, the administrative team also evaluated kanwaria resting spots, bathing ghats, and changing rooms. Officials instructed that kanwarias must not face any inconvenience:
Pure Drinking Water and Sanitation: The PHED department has been directed to ensure continuous supplies of pure drinking water for devotees along the Ganga ghats and Kanwariya pathway. Special sanitation workers will also be deployed for cleanliness.
Lighting Arrangements: High-capacity street lights and temporary illumination setups are being finalized across the entire mela area, main routes, and ghats for kanwarias traveling during nighttime hours.
German Hangars and Rest Areas: German hangars (rest pavilions) have been established at key locations and transit camps to protect against harsh weather or intense sunlight, equipped with medical camps and information centers.
Strict Traffic Management and Security Measures
Reviewing security arrangements jointly, the IG and SSP stated that police forces will be deployed at every nook and cranny to maintain law and order during the fair.
Temporary Police Stations and Checkposts: Numerous temporary police stations, checkposts, and assistance centers are being set up along the Kanwariya pathway and mela zone.
Traffic Control and Parking: A route diversion plan has been formulated to regulate heavy vehicle entry. Additionally, parking spaces have been designated at prominent spots to resolve city traffic congestion issues, while vehicle operators and shopkeepers have been warned to adhere strictly to prescribed rules.
Health Services and Emergency Preparedness
Health facilities are being assigned top priority during the mela. The District Magistrate directed that all health centers and block hospitals along the Kanwariya pathway remain on 'alert mode'. Medical relief camps are being established at various points, ensuring round-the-clock deployment of ambulances equipped with life-saving drugs and trained doctors.
This marathon joint inspection by the Commissioner, IG, DM, and SSP clearly demonstrates that the administration is fully resolved to make this year's Shravani Mela historic, safe, and highly structured. Administrative vigilance and time-bound preparations ensure that Shiva devotees arriving from every corner of the country can complete this sacred pilgrimage with deep reverence, safety, and seamless convenience.
