KAHALGAON (Bhagalpur): With the arrival of the holy month of Shravan, a spiritual fervor is building up at the historic Baba Bateshwarnath Dham in Kahalgaon. According to official announcements, this year's Shravani Mela at Baba Bateshwarnath Dham will be held from July 29 to August 28, 2026. Preparations for this grand festival of worship and devotion to Lord Shiva are currently in their final stages, both at the temple administration level and locally.

A Center of Faith and Devotion: Bateshwarnath Dham

Located on the banks of the river Ganga, Baba Bateshwarnath Dham is not just a religious site but is also renowned for its ancient caves and unique architectural heritage. Here, the Ganga flows in a northerly direction (Uttarvahini), which is considered extremely auspicious and benevolent in Hindu tradition. Throughout the month of Shravan, the entire atmosphere becomes imbued with the spirit of Lord Shiva. Devotees travel from far and wide to catch a glimpse of the massive statue of Nandi situated on the hills and the Shiva Linga, which appears in the form of Ardh-Narishwara.

Outline and Preparations for the Mela

Special attention is being given to the facilities for devotees attending the month-long fair beginning on July 29.

Duration: July 29 to August 28, 2026.

Key Activities: The month of Shravan features special worship ceremonies, Rudrabhishek, and grand Maharati rituals at the temple. The scene is marked by a unique display of Shiva devotion, with the atmosphere filled with the resounding chants of "Bol Bam" by Kanwariyas and pilgrims.

Administrative Vigilance and Facilities

In anticipation of the massive influx of devotees during the Shravani Mela, the Kahalgaon administration is on high alert. Robust arrangements for cleanliness, clean drinking water, lighting, and security are being finalized within the temple premises. According to the temple committee, to ensure that devotees face no inconvenience, plans are in place to deploy volunteers and set up medical camps throughout the duration of the fair.

Special Significance for Kanwariyas

The pilgrimage to Bateshwarnath Dham holds immense significance. During the month of Shravan, thousands of Kanwariyas arrive here carrying holy water from the Ganga at Sultanganj to perform Jalabhishek (offering of water) to Baba Bateshwarnath. Efforts are being made to decorate the pilgrim path and install sound systems to ensure that the Kanwar Yatra remains smooth and spiritually uplifting.

Appeal to Devotees

The temple management has appealed to all devotees to maintain order and adhere to administrative guidelines. Starting July 29, the ritual of Jalabhishek will commence every day from early morning. It is a deep-rooted historical belief that performing prayers at Bateshwarnath Dham during the month of Shravan fulfills all the wishes of the devotees.

For the next month, the region of Kahalgaon will be drenched in the colors of devotion, where the chants of "Har Har Mahadev" will echo from the morning Maharati until late in the evening.
