Minister of Urban Development and Housing Holds Meeting with Councilors; Reviews Shravani Mela Preparations and City Development Projects
SULTANGANJ (Bhagalpur): A high-level meeting was held on Thursday in the Municipal Council auditorium to discuss the successful organization of the world-famous Shravani Mela 2026 and the holistic development of the Sultanganj Municipal Council area. The Minister of Urban Development and Housing, Government of Bihar, presided over the meeting, which saw detailed deliberations between local public representatives, municipal councilors, and administrative officials regarding urban challenges and preparations for the upcoming fair.
Deliberations on Development and Civic Issues
During the meeting, councilors presented the primary grievances of their respective wards to the Minister. Key issues discussed included drainage systems, repair of dilapidated roads, street lighting, and waste management. The Minister patiently heard all the concerns raised by the councilors and issued immediate directives to the concerned officials to ensure timely resolution.
The Minister remarked that Sultanganj is not just a city but a center of faith where pilgrims arrive throughout the year from across the country and the globe. Consequently, the quality of basic amenities here must be of the highest standard. He directed that there be no compromise on the quality of development works within the city.
Shravani Mela 2026: The Goal of a 'Kanwariya-Friendly' Sultanganj
The most critical agenda of the meeting was the upcoming Shravani Mela. The Minister made it clear that administrative and municipal preparations must be exhaustive to ensure pilgrims face no inconvenience during the fair.
Key decisions taken during the meeting include:
Roads and Sanitation: Directives were issued to launch a special campaign for the repair and cleaning of the fair route and the city's main thoroughfares. A consensus was reached to implement the anti-encroachment drive with increased strictness.
Drinking Water and Toilets: Instructions were given to identify additional points for the installation of temporary toilets and the provision of clean drinking water in the fair area.
Lighting Arrangements: The administration was directed to accelerate the project of installing modern, high-capacity streetlights along the entire stretch from Sultanganj to the Ajgaibinath Dham.
'Namami Gange' and Beautification of Ghats
The Minister also reviewed the ongoing works under the 'Namami Gange' project. He directed the Municipal Council to expedite the beautification of the areas surrounding Sidhi Ghat and the Ajgaibinath Temple on a war footing. The discussion also covered security arrangements at the ghats, including the installation of barricading and the deployment of divers to ensure pilgrim safety.
Coordination Between Councilors and Administration
The Minister of Urban Development appealed to all councilors present to continuously monitor development works in their respective wards. He emphasized that better coordination between public representatives and the administration is the key to development. If any delays or negligence are observed in the work, they should immediately be brought to the notice of senior officials.
Future Roadmap
Municipal Council officials apprised the Minister that several other ambitious projects are set to commence in Sultanganj in the near future. This includes the beautification of the city's major intersections and the creation of organized parking zones for e-rickshaws. The Minister assured that the necessary funds and technical support for these projects would be provided.
Concluding the meeting, the local MLA and the Municipal Council President expressed their gratitude to the Minister, stating that his visit and valuable suggestions would provide new momentum to the development of Sultanganj. The administration has asserted that the face of Sultanganj will appear entirely transformed before the commencement of the Shravani Mela.
