A massive wave of devotees surged at the banks of the Ganges since early morning on the auspicious occasion of the second Monday of Shravan. The entire region resonated with the thunderous echoes of "Bol Bom" and "Har-Har Mahadev." Thousands of devotees arriving from far-flung villages took a sacred dip in the holy Ganges River and, following traditional worship rituals, performed Jalabhishek of Lord Shiva. In view of the massive turnout, the local administration and police department had put special, foolproof security arrangements in place.
Arrival of Devotees Began at the Break of Dawn
The significance of Mondays during Shravan holds a special place in Hindu tradition, which is why devotees began arriving at the Jahaj Ghat in Tintanga Karari as early as 4:00 AM:
Significance of Bathing in the Ganges: Kanwarias and general Shiva devotees believe that taking a holy bath in the Ganges on a Shravan Monday followed by offering water at nearby shrines invokes the special grace of Mahadev and dispels all hardships.
Vibrancy at the Ghats: A large number of women, children, and senior citizens arrived at Jahaj Ghat in traditional attire. After filling their kanwars with Ganges water, the worshippers embarked on their journeys, rendering the entire ghat awash in saffron hues.
