Children Taught Water Safety Measures at Middle School Kulkulia Saitpura Safe Saturday Programme Focuses on Preventing Boat Accidents and Drowning,Children Advised to Stay Alert During Emergencies
Kahalgaon : A Safe Saturday programme was organised at Middle School Kulkulia Saitpura in Kahalgaon on Saturday, where children were educated about ways to prevent boat accidents and drowning incidents. The main objective of the programme was to create awareness among students about water safety and prepare them to act cautiously during potential emergencies. Teachers explained various safety measures that should be followed around rivers, ponds, lakes and other water bodies.
During the programme, students were told that the condition of water bodies can change rapidly during the monsoon and floods. Going near rivers and ponds, entering fast-flowing water or boarding boats without adequate safety precautions can prove dangerous. Children were specifically advised never to go near deep water alone and not to travel by boat without the knowledge or permission of their parents or guardians.
Safety Important While Travelling by Boat
Teachers explained that following safety rules while travelling by boat is extremely important. Overcrowding a boat can significantly increase the risk of accidents. Students were advised not to stand unnecessarily after boarding a boat and to strictly follow the instructions of the boat operator.
They were also informed about the importance of using life jackets and other available safety equipment while travelling by boat. Careless behaviour, pushing or leaning over the side of a boat to look into the water can be dangerous and should be avoided.
Students Taught How to Prevent Drowning
The programme also focused on ways to prevent drowning incidents. Teachers told the students that if they see someone drowning, they should not jump directly into the water without thinking. Attempting a rescue without knowing how to swim can put the rescuer’s life at risk as well.
Students were advised to use available objects such as ropes, sticks, pieces of cloth, tubes or other floating objects to assist someone in distress. They were also instructed to immediately alert nearby people and responsible adults and seek emergency assistance whenever necessary.
Special Precautions During Floods
Considering the presence of rivers and other water bodies in and around Kahalgaon, children were given special instructions about safety during floods. They were told that floodwater can cover roads, fields and lanes, hiding dangerous conditions such as deep pits, open drains, electric wires and strong currents.
Students were strictly advised not to play or swim in floodwater. Before attempting to cross a flooded route, they should seek guidance from adults and use only safe and approved routes.
Awareness Can Help Prevent Accidents
Teachers said that developing water-safety awareness among children is extremely important. Apart from protecting themselves, children can also pass on safety information to their family members and people in their communities.
During the programme, students were encouraged to repeat important water-safety rules and ask questions related to emergency situations. Teachers explained that many accidents can be prevented through awareness, caution and timely action.
Objective of Safe Saturday Programme
The Safe Saturday programme was organised to provide students with practical knowledge about potential accidents and disasters that they may encounter in everyday life, rather than limiting education to classroom studies. Students participated enthusiastically and asked questions about various aspects of water safety.
